Abstract

The city of Dordrecht has the intention to built a new suburban area with a minimum of 4000 houses, called Buitenstad. For such plans the statutory regulations require a study of the effects on the environment. In the framework of such a study it is necessary to determine the mobility effects of the new suburban. The WOLOCAS programme has been developed for this determination, by which the following mobility effects are calculated: a new suburban of 4000 houses with normal public transport, and a new suburban of 4000 houses with highly qualified public transport to the centre of the old city. It is concluded that the highly qualified transport leads to about 35% more journeys by public transport. In spite of the modification in transport mode and an increase in the use of public transport, it can be concluded that the modal split modifies only in a limited sense by the introduction of the highly qualified public transport.
