This report presents the new version of the Mobility Explorer (version 4.1). The Mobility Explorer is a strategic, medium term forecasting model which can be used on a national and a regional level in the Netherlands. Although the old version of the Mobility Explorer (version 4.0) has become a very user-friendly and flexible tool, there were still some desires left among the users concerning issues of maintenance and updating of the model. The report describes the required modifications. These include: (1) The update from 1987 to 1990 of the input data for the base year of the calculations; (2) The update of the values of the elasticities within the model; and (3) the implementation of the effects of the public transport pass for students. The results of the modifications are evaluated by comparing the forecasts using the version 4.1 with those of the version 4.0 for the 1990-2000 period. The comparison indicated a strong growth in the public transport use forecasts for the year 2000. This is both the case with train, interlocal bus, and urban transport travel, on a national level. The growth concentrates on train travel in the Randstad region. This effect is mainly caused by the introduction of the pass for students.
