Abstract

This chapter examines obstacles posed to the mobility of the elderly and ways in which their mobility can be enhanced. The importance of mobility for the elderly is stressed. Psychological and physical advantages of engaging in interactions and experiences that require leaving the confines of one's home are detailed. Mobility characteristics required to maintain connectedness with one's community and culture are discussed.
