Abstract

The research presented in this paper establishes a casual model of parent's beliefs about their children's traffic capabilities. Parents to children in late kindergarten or in the lower primary school were questioned about different aspects of their children's safety behaviour, family situation, traffic conditions in the neighbourhood, environment in the vicinity and the parents attitude to where and when their children could independently take part in the traffic as pedestrians, cyclists etc. Using LISREL, casual relationships between variables were analysed. The paper begins with an overview of current theories and the results are presented and discussed within this framework.
