Abstract

The National Police Agency (NPA), Japan intends to push forward an environmental model project to establish a technique for diminishing environmental burdens as its environmental measure for an area extending between Metropolitan Tokyo and Kanagawa Prefecture by installing image processing vehicle detectors for measuring traffic volume and other data, transmitting measured data in real time to the traffic control centers of the respective Police HQ, collecting air pollution data measured by other governmental agencies and local public bodies and by systematically analyzing a correlation between traffic index and environmental index data. This paper introduces this model project and the environmental measures taken heretofore by the NPA.
