Abstract

This model makes it possible to calculate traffic characteristics such as average speed of a vehicle with given desired speed, average number of overtaking and average flow as functions various parameters such as the density of vehicles in each lane, the distribution of desired speeds in the studied lane, average speed of oncoming traffic, maximum speed of oncoming traffic, relative overtaking distance, minimum sight distance en average number of jumps of the sight function. The paper presents numerical results for various values of the parameters. The parameters have, in most cases, been varied one at a time from a set of values called the "standard case". The so called" standard case" has been chosen close to what should be the case on a rather good Swedish two-lane highway according to present knowledge.
