Abstract

In this article, a new approach to modelling on-line signal network control is described. It is based on a newly developed estimation method for origin destination (O-D) flows at intersections and within networks, outlined by Keller,H and Ploss,R (1987), (see IRRD 815082). This method takes into account previous research work carried out in Germany and the USA. By measuring traffic flows approaching (at the entry) and leaving (at the exit) an intersection as cross-counts, a matrix is defined representing all O-D flows. The quantity of these flows can be determined by taking into account series of traffic volumes refering to the time at each entry and exit.
