Abstract

This paper presents a microscopic simulation model to study bus stop operations in detail. Firstly, a summary of the approaches to model bus stops operations is presented and the advantages and limitations of various models are discussed. As a result, the need for an alternative modelling perspective is established. From that background the paper moves towards the essential issues of a new model of bus stops. Various experiments with the model are shown and the results are presented. The modelling exercise stresses the sort of factors that have more influence on the operations at bus stops. The results show that a detailed modelling of bus stops and appropriate designs based on that modelling approach can improve the operation of the whole bus system. (A)
