Abstract

As ITS is introduced and evolves, the characteristics of traffic communication and the design of the ITS communication network will be important components of successful systems. One of the most distinctive characteristics of the system that needs to be taken into account during the design process is vehicle movement and the communications this generates. The relationship between transportation traffic and communication traffic is explored and a model for road-vehicle communication traffic is presented. Simulation results are presented to indicate characteristics of the communication traffic and its impact on road-vehicle communication networks.
