Abstract

The APAS Urban 2 Modelling project was one of a series of studies commissioned by the Transport Directorate (DG VII) of the European Commission, as preliminary work for the Fourth Framework research programme. This `urban' study is completed by two other modelling studies, in the `Road' and `Strategic' areas of the APAS programme. The Executive Summary given summarises work, which is reported fully in a Final Report and Technical Appendix (dated May 1995), for the Urban project. The remainder of the Executive Summary is in four parts: (1) the overview in part one discusses what urban models are and why they are important in urban areas; (2) the assessment of urban models, is covered in part two; (3) areas for future research, defined during the project, are given in part three; and (4) the key conclusions are given in part four.
