Abstract

The quality of the hinterland connections is of great importance for the development of the Rotterdam harbour. Capacity problems on roads and railways make it very necessary to look for some other alternatives of transport concepts. Generally, the combined water-road transport offers good perspectives. This paper presents 4 alternatives to transporting containers by inland waterway. The most promising alternative is elaborated with a feasibility study.
