Abstract

The combination of road /rail traffic is seen, above all in discussions about the environmental burden caused by traffic crossing the Alps, as an alternative to the increasing volume of road traffic and the need to make available more road space for this traffic. In principle combined road /rail traffic in an interconnected transport system can carry a significant proportion of traffic volume. For this purpose, however, either the rail network and /or the terminal network must be further developed.
