Abstract

Among the initiatives undertaken in the Euroregional project CORVETTE, aimed to ITS implementations for traffic management and information on cross border main roads, a new monitoring and Automatic Incident Detection (AID) system recently installed in Italy on the motorway Autostrada A4-A31/Brescia-Padova is described here. A significant characteristic of the system is its configuration, foreseeing two black and white video-cameras and one colour video-camera at each detection post, all connected to the Traffic Control Centre in Verona, where the image processing equipment allows the automatic and integrated functioning of the system. Several problems encountered are reported together with the final satisfactory achievements and the future expected improvements. (A*)
