Abstract

This paper describes how there has been increasing awareness in recent years of the transport problems faced by disabled people in the United Kingdom (UK). As a consequence, efforts have been made by both central and local governments and by transport to make transport systems more accessible to people with a wide range of disabilities. The Department of Transport (DOT) initiated a number of projects along these lines during 1981, The International Year of the Disabled. One of these involved participating with Carbodies Limited in the design and development of a new taxi-cab prototype.
