Abstract

A mathematical model has been developed for monitoring road safety, based on analysis techniques already available at the SWOV Institute for Road Safety Research. This model has been developed for the analysis of different data types related to road safety, and of the relationship between these data. On the basis of this analysis, predictions can be made of developments in road safety. In this report, a protype of the mathematical model, its operation and possibilities are described. Some examples of application are also described: a theoretical example on the basis of which the specific characteristics of the model are explained; and examples on the basis of data disaggregated by age and transport mode whereby developments in the number of road victims are related to mobility in terms of passenger kilometers, applied to a number of road user groups.
