Abstract

There is a steady decrease in mortality between infancy to the 10-14 year age group, the intermediate levels of 61 per 100. 000 and 51 per 100. 000 respectively for males and females being obtained in 1980 within the EEC in the age range 1 to 4 years. Children aged 1 to 4 years are subject to a wide variety of accidents. Road accidents constitute 30 to 45% of all fatal accidents and usually consist of a collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian.
