Abstract

In 1995 Adam Opel AG, BMW AG, Daimler Benz AG, Debis Systemhaus GEI, DeTeMobil, IBM Deutschland, ITF Intertraffic GmbH, MAN Nutzfahrzeuge AG, Philips, Siemens AG, Robert Bosch GmbH, and Volkswagen AG started the co-operative research programme MOTIV (MObilitat und Transport im Intermodalen Verkehr), which is sponsored by the German Federal Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Technology (BMBF). This programme is a 4-year research effort to develop systems and services to achieve a better organization of mobility and transport in urban areas, including the better linkage between individual and public transport. The paper describes the goals, contents, and structure of the programme.
