The first part of a two-part project on individual-psychological and social-psychological determinants of risk-taking is reported. In consists of laboratory experiments. Results indicated that in a novel situation, when there is only a small amount of information about situational parameters, variance in task-risk preferences is explained by individual ability, accurateness of risk perception and interaction of personality variables.
