Abstract

The target audience of this article consists of physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses who provide care for infants and children, including pediatricians, emergency physicians, family practitioners, and surgeons. In particular, the information will be useful for clinicians offering anticipatory guidance to the families of infants and young children. The article describes the current child passenger safety recommendations for transitioning children by seat type (infants, toddlers and young children). It also presents the biomechanical principles upon which these recommendations are based. In addition, sources of further information and technical advice concerning child passenger safety are given.
