Abstract

This report covers the final stage of OECD's Motor Vehicle Emission (MOVE) project which examined the possibilities for improving motor vehicle emissions control. Using a global emissions model measures are determined which would be necessary to assure substantial improvements, compared to current policies, in road transport in the next 30-40 years. The major findings of 4 MOVE studies: (a) the control of emissions from the in-use fleet; (b) control of heavy duty vehicles emissions; (c) evaporative emissions control; and (d) alternative transportation fuels, are synthesized. In addition ways are considered in which other means, such as fuel efficiency improvements and better management of transport demand could contribute to achieving durable reductions in motor vehicle emissions.
