This is a report on activities under the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act of 1966 and the Motor Vehicle Information and Cost Savings Act of 1972 as amended, for the period January 1, 1989 through December 31, 1989. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) designed programs to yield a reduction in fatalities, injuries, and economic loss that result from motor vehicle accidents in the most effective and efficient manner. Resources were directed to those activities, with the most realistic prospects of success and with the maximum safety gains per dollar invested. (A)
