Motorcycle accidents and injuries.

Abstract

This paper discusses the use made of the motorcycle in Great Britain since 1953 and gives the present day pattern of accidents involving motorcycles and the main factors involved. The effect of safety helmets in reducing fatalities is evaluated. The Transport and Road Research Laboratory's programme to improve the safety design of motorcycles is considered and some main lines of work are proposed.
