Abstract

TRRL has, since 1973, been investigating rider trajectories in frontal collisions. This impact configuration was chosen after the results of a small survey showed that this was the most common direction if impact. The present study confirms these findings. In 483 accident studies the riders and their motorcycles, the accident situation, the relation to national data, injuries and causes, injury pattern and the use of safety helmets are reviewed and the results are discussed.
