Abstract

This issue of Current Topics includes over 75 abstracts of reports, conference papers, books and journal articles which focus on safety aspects of motorcycling. Specific topics covered include machine design issues such as anti-locking braking systems and leg protectors; accident studies, impact tests, modelling, injuries to motorcyclists; perception of the presence of motorcycles by car drivers, driver visibility; helmet design, standards testing and use; and the development and effectiveness of various counter-measures such as the use of daytime running lights, driver training programs and protective clothing, airbag restraint systems. These items have been selected from the material added to the Transport Research Laboratory's Library Database between 1994 and 1997. Much of the relevant English language published literature from the UK, USA, Australia and Europe is included; some of the non-UK literature is included courtesy of the OECD International Road Research Documentation (IRRD) database. The previous edition of this title, CT49, covered items added to the database between 1991 and 1993.
