Abstract

This issue of Current Topics includes over 60 abstracts of reports, conference papers, books and journal articles which focus on safety aspects of motorcycling. Specific topics covered include machine design issues such as anti-locking braking systems and leg protectors; accident studies, impact tests, modelling, injuries to motorcyclists; perception of the presence of motorcycles by car drivers, driver visibility, Standards testing and use and the developments and effectiveness of various countermeasures such as the use of daytime running lights, driver training programs and protective clothing, airbag restraint systems. Also covered is the issue of motorcycle security. Motorcycle helmets are covered in CT 87.1 Safety helmets (cycle and motorcycle) update. These items have been selected from the material added to the Transport Research Laboratory's Library Database between 1997-2000. Much of the relevant English language published literature is included courtesy of the OECD International Transport Research Documentation (ITRD) database. The first edition of this title, CT49, covered items added to the database between 1991 and 1993. The previous edition of this title, CT49.1 (see C 12158 S), covered items added to the database between 1994 and 1997.
