Abstract

This issue of Current Topics includes over 65 abstracts of reports, conference papers, books and journal articles which focus on safety aspects of motorcycling. Specific topics covered include machine design issues such as anti-locking braking systems and leg protectors; accident studies, impact tests, injuries to motorcyclists, accident risks, age of motorcyclists, daytime running lights, driver training programmes and protective clothing. A few references to motorcycle security are included. Motorcycle helmets are covered in CT 83.2 Safety helmets (cycle and motorcycle) update. These items have been selected from the material added to the Transport Research Laboratory's Library Database between 2001 and 2003. Much of the relevant English language published literature from the UK, USA, Australia and Europe is included; some of the non-UK literature is included courtesy of the OECD International Transport Research Documentation (ITRD) database. The first edition of this title, CT49, covered items added to the database between 1991 and 1993. The second edition of this title, CT49.1 (see C 12158 S), covered items added to the database between 1994 and 1997. The previous edition of this title, CT49.2 (see C 15675 S), covered items added to the database between 1997 and 2000.
