Motorist's understanding of the meanings of symbolic traffic signs.

Abstract

The results of a before and after study in England on motorists knowledge of the meanings of certain symbolic traffic signs are reported. The results, when compared with a control area, indicated some increase in knowledge of the symbolic signs over a 1-year period, correct identification increasing from 64 to 69%. Some symbols had a greater increase than others. A discussion is added.
