Abstract

During EXPO 2000 (01.06.2000 - 31.10.2000) Hannover is host for visitors from all around the world. To cope with the extreme traffic volume caused by the EXPO 2000 visitors, Hannover developed a new cooperative traffic management system. Core of this system is the traffic management centre. It is in operation by the move GmbH, a private company which is granted with legal tasks by the German state of Lower Saxony. The new Hannover approach is that for the first time in Germany all local traffic authorities and public transport companies are working together in a cooperative and integrative way. The success of this approach shows that the way of cooperative traffic management can be an example for the solution of the traffic problems in other conurbations.
