Abstract

The `Moving South Africa' project is an initiative of the South African Department of Transport which aims to develop a strategy for meeting the transport challenges of the 21st century. The goal is to map out a 20-year strategic framework for the transport sector in South Africa. This paper discusses the project and its progress to date. It outlines the major strategic challenges facing the transport sector, and the questions which will have to be answered in meeting them. (A) The French title of the paper is: "Moving South Africa: contexte et avancement".
