Abstract

The dissertation suggest a queue-theoretical model for describing the traffic flow on a motorway. The model is based on the theory of a stationary Markov processes and is closely related to the data collection methods made possible by a specially developed set of recording equipment. The dissertation deals with a combination of technical recording methods and statistical model techniques in a attempt to gain further knowledge about conditions which have a bearing on the understanding of the problems commonly associated with the notion of "road capacity".
