Abstract

First of all model specification problems are dealt with. Using an allocation model as an example, logical, theoretical, methodological, and practical considerations in specifying a model are clarified. Then, the problem is treated how to identify the factors that really contribute to the explanation of the phenomenon at hand. This is done using two residential location models. Special attention is paid to testing the effect of accessibility and to adequacy of several distance measures.
