Abstract

To a program “Physical planning and mobility”. In this paper the results of the project “Mobiliteitstoets” (“Mobility-test”) are presented. The project was launched by the National Board for Traffic and Transport (NVVB), in October 2001. Aim of the project is to promote that mobility is taken into account in time and adequately in physical planning processes. In contradiction tot the name, it was made clear that rather than a formal “test” a “toolkit” should be developed. Therefore instruments are developed by the Transportation Research Centre (AVV) such as “rules of thumb” for estimating the (freight)traffic generated by industrial areas and mega-complexes (for sports, recreation and shopping). Also practical guides for planners are developed for industrial areas, facilities and residential areas. At this time three new products are under development: a “guide to freight-traffic in urban areas”, “rules of thumb for estimating the traffic generated by industrial and business areas”, and a “guide to planning of health-facilities (hospitals mainly) and mobility”. From 2004 the project “Mobiliteitstoets” will make place for a 3-year program “Physical planning and mobility”. As until now the emphasis has been on the development of knowledge, with this new program the emphasis will be on communication and awareness. All publications can be downloaded on www.rws-avv.nl.
