The oil crisis of 1973 has had little influence on the Dutch passenger traffic. Many experts are agreed that a new crisis can be expected in the near future, due to the running out of natural resources. The concrete problem is: which possibilities has the government for an optimum use of oil for passenger traffic. Chapter II reviews the possible ways to save energy by a modification of modal split. Chapter III presents a linear program model to find the optimum modal split for the Dutch passenger traffic.
