Abstract

A description is given of the complete traffic control and surveillance system which operates on the "Tangenziale" of Naples. Information is collected from over six hundred loop detectors, and is transmitted to a control center, where two digital computers process it in real time. Traffic parameters, like speed, occupancy, volume are continuously computed over the entire motorway and anomalous events like slow speed or incidents, are automatically detected.
