Abstract

Outlines the history of roads and transportation in The Netherlands and explains how the national highway and road system is organised and financed. Particular attention is given to pioneering features and techniques on urban freeways including the "woonerf" concept, the computerisation of traffic signals and the beltway around inner-city Amsterdam.
