Abstract

This paper describes a mobile exhibition of advanced traffic control technology, that is to be displayed in many parts of the USA. It is carried on a 14.4m long tractor/trailer combination that can be expanded to 4.8m width. It is believed to be the most extensive demonstration of intersection control technology ever put together for mobile display. Its exhibits are fully operational, and simulate actual traffic control conditions; they include hands-on demonstrations of equipment. Typical examples of the 25 technologies on display are: (1) traffic signal controller units, each displayed and set up for hands-on exercises, including step-by-step operating instructions; (2) auxiliary input auxiliary input devices, including traffic detectors and time-based coordination units; (3) auxiliary output devices, including typical controller cabinet technology; (4) testing equipment for a wide variety of devices; (5) uninterrupted power supply and transient suppression devices; (6) communications media associated with traffic control systems, presenting the features, applications and limitations of each medium; (7) traffic control management systems; and (8) emerging technologies, including traffic detectors, information systems and management systems.
