Abstract

Data are presented on travel patterns to school students between 5 and 18 years of age. One-third of all students, regardless of grade, lived within one mile of their school, one-third between one and three miles and one-third three miles or more. Walk / bicycle and no-charge school bus were the most widely used modes of transportation. The car as a third mode of transportation gained importance at the senior grade level. Over two-thirds of all students made the one-way trip to school in less than 20 minutes.
