Abstract

This paper introduces the needs and the potential of ALERT Plus protocol in RDS/TMC (Radio data system - traffic message channel) transmission in urban and suburban areas, completing the information given by ALERT C. It details the new services that obtained with Alert Plus and the important impact on new multimodal services combining road information and public transport information. Technical descriptions of both protocols are detailed in this paper and the latest standardization achievements reached by DG VII, DG XIII, ERTICO and EBU in the FORCE-ECORTIS project are also provided. Information about French urban and suburban trials INF-FLUX and CARMINAT illustrate the efficiency of this mixed service approach.
