Abstract
National accident statistics around the world show that the public awareness is growing that road signs and markings are in desperate need of modernization and upgrading with the use of materials with higher performance levels. Maintenance programmes calling for thorough updating and replacement operations are the key to obtaining in a short time a road signing system with a high level of performance and the best return of investment possible, and which will fulfill the authorities'needs into the next century.
