Abstract

A challenging innovative approach to traffic management based on proven concepts that are in use in defence and air-traffic control is described. When put in practice, future traffic management will incorporate the network status and subsequently share information within the entire mobility system. This efficient and holistic way of working will yield an optimum performance of the network. It is shown that this approach could influence congestion problems and traffic management. The possibilities to reuse real-time output of nationwide road charging as a way to gather situational information and deal with congestion problems are highlighted.
