Abstract

This article considers the benefits of networking parking control machines, indicating some of the facilities offered by Metric Parking. Networking can be carried out by a) a hardwire system, b) radio in each machine, c) telephone line, d) telemetry radio system or e) subscriber air time rental. Suitable applications for each are suggested. Once networked, a number of software packages are available. ALERT provides information on the operational status of the machine and produces statistical data by time, machine, zone, car park or town. TARIFF EDITOR complements the ALERT system by controlling a variety of tariff programmes. ATTENDANT PAGING dials up the message pager held by a car park supervisor.
