Abstract

A new strategy for traffic control, and its application to 250 intersections in the City of Barcelona is described. The new system uses a dynamic signal plan generation techniques with two computers working in real time. The control strategy has two basic levels of decision. The general traffic pattern of each area and the traffic conditions in the boundaries between areas are investigated in the higher level, to decide the groups of areas with a common cycle.
