Abstract

This paper discusses traffic control strategies for Urban Traffic Control Systems (UTCS) from the point of view of control theory. The essential problems of UTCS, the basic control loops with feedback of UTCS, aims of UTCS and the variables of UTCS are discussed. Analysis of existing strategies for UTCS is given. Then a new concept of control strategy for UTCS is provided. This new concept of control strategy for UTCS is based on intelligent control and is oriented on the uncertainties of traffic flow. It is the solution of UTCS, especially for the UTCS that belong to ITS.
