Abstract

In the Netherlands, the negative aspects of transport especially in the older residential areas, have been seen as one of the central problems of urban development. As a consequence in several reports of the national government, policies have been formulated to improve these areas by physical and transport measures. The national government has tried to stimulate these measures by starting two experiments in cooperation with the local authorities. The./, specific problems, encountered in these demonstration projects and the general issues derived there from are discussed.
