Abstract

An attempt is made to summarise the evolution in urban transport planning thought that has occurred in the past five years. It is emphasised that transport planners are attempting to develop an evolutionary type planning framework which overcomes the deficiencies of the so called horizon year-type approach. Inclusion of the distributional efficiency effects of proposals dictates that travel demands must be forecast on a desegregated basis. Recent advances in forecasting travel demands to achieve this are presented.
