Abstract

The author discusses the selection of transmission systems for all-wheel-drive type of vehicles. Usually investigators make mathematical models in the search for optimal characteristics of actuating systems, which take into account characteristics of different mechanisms for interaxle and interwheel transmission units. They can be altered in order that comparisons can be made between various types of mechanism. For all this some authors prefer criteria for cross-country mobility, and others prefer criteria for handling characteristics, and so on. In fact these methods are comparative methods of inquiry. Nobody can affirm that grounded characteristics of the mechanismsare the best, and nobody can deny the existence of better mechanisms. This comparative approach is as long as the range of the mechanisms which must be compared. The fundamental difference between the newly developed method and the well-known methods is that the method is not orientated on the comparison of some actuating systems. It is orientated on the direct search for the optimal actuating system fordesigning a vehicle
