Abstract

This publication brings together a series of documents, submitted to the European Conference of Ministers of Transport (ECMT) at Annecy on 26 and 27 May 1994, designed to ensure compatibility of various telematics applications in individual European countries. The applications covered include road traffic information and management, user guidance and autonomous intelligent cruise control systems. Policy issues are discussed relating to new information technology in the field of driver information and route guidance systems for road vehicles. Recommendations are made on the specification, administration and inter-operability of information services. Requirements of presentation, protection of privacy, ergonomics and safety, demonstration projects and the implementation of the Radio Data System are also discussed. A statement of principles is made prior to the establishment of standards. Examples are given in annexes of existing in-vehicle information systems and automatic debiting systems in France, United Kingdom, Sweden, Switserland and Canada.
