Abstract

This symposium, commissioned by the Insurance Bureau of Canada (IBC) and organized and convened by the Traffic Injury Research Foundation of Canada (TIRF), provided a forum to examine the causes of road crashes involving new drivers and to identify program and policy options for an effective prevention strategy. The major objectives of the symposium were: to increase awareness, concern, and understanding about the problem of young and older new drivers; to identify effective prevention programs and policies; and to stimulate a long-term, meaningful commitment to prevention and research. This report is intended primarily as a summary of the findings and recommendations of the symposium that are of greatest relevance to policy makers. (A)
