Abstract

Sight distance is probably the most important individual feature with respect to highway safety. This paper attempts to draw together recent research and development that have resulted from the analysis of highway sight distance based upon human factors considerations. It not only reviews sight distance criteria, but delves into new philosophies and guidelines that flow from the research.
