Abstract

A short synthesis is given of recent and current status of urban transportations; and general estimates of future needs, priorities, and trends. Three trends are noted: 1) diffusion of demand; 2) large variations in demand and 3) decline for demand. Three new concepts are discussed: 1) demand actuated systems; 2) extended area systems and 3) automated circulation systems for major activity centers.
